Finding the space and time for self-care can be difficult. What blocks our capacity to create the sacred space for self-care even within busy schedules? The words that come to me are distraction and discipline. There are a gazillion distractions in 21st century America...You know what they are! Distractions that may be comforting and needed at times yet in the extreme way may take away from time that our bodies, minds and spirits need replenishing.
And then that other word; discipline. I have a hard time with this one, perhaps its' my Sagittariun rebellious nature. Yet I'm trying to re-frame discipline as structured self-love. There may not be a manual or a great model of adding self-care into our busy weekly life, so we have to make our own! If scheduling it in our planners, palm pilots or outlook programs at work is what it takes, then lets go for it! How about asking a partner, friend or co-worker as our self-care advocate and ask them for simple and gentle reminders every so often? Let me know what helps and write to us with your secret formula! We'd love to hear from you...
